Review / Comments: I am currently reading this book (9/2003), so the following is not a final review.

So far, I am enjoying this book immensely.  It is a compelling history of the General Motors corporation as told through an outsider's eyes.  I mention the fact that the author is an outsider for two reasons:

  1. I also enjoyed J. Patrick Wright's On a Clear Day You Can See General Motors which, of course, is told through a pair of insider's eyes owned by John Z. DeLorean; and

  2. Even though he's an outsider, I find it interesting that the author picked up on many of the key strengths that allowed GM to become the dominant company that it has become.  These strengths were described at length in the DeLorean book, although DeLorean did so to settle various "scores" he had with GM management.
While I have not finished this (large) book — and this includes not yet reaching the sections that deal with the Corvair — I'm confident that my final recommendation will be for most Corvair fans to read both this book and the DeLorean/Wright book.

The final review will be available shortly.
